Family Portraits
My Dad was a pioneer in professional outdoor portraiture, and we had a family picture done every year for Christmas cards. Because those pictures are so valuable to me today, I love to photograph families. I like to take family portraits outdoors because I think everyone is more relaxed and comfortable (but indoor
locations are possible.)
Over the years, I've never had anyone tell me that they're sorry they took family pictures, but I've sure had them tell me they were sorry they didn't!
Portrait Tips
Solid colors work best- remember, light things look bigger and dark things look smaller in photographs.
Wear dark colors for your pants and skirts. Girls- avoid short skirts and if possible, cover your shoulders.
Try to select tops that are darker than your skin tone.
If multiple families will be photographed together, each family might wear a different dark color. For example, grandparents might wear navy, family 1 might wear dark green and family 2 might wear burgundy.
Photo-gray glasses will turn dark in the sun. Remove lenses or get empty frames from your optometrist.
Wear comfortable shoes fit for rough terrain.
